Before Council amalgamation, the Club has fielded permanent participants in
Council-organized Community Reference Groups (Cycling and Walking), often
called "BUGs", or "Bicycle User Groups". It is
hoped that this involvement will be revived in the coming 12 months as some
of us have already worked with one of the Councillors-elect.
Many new Councillors have expressed publicly
their support for more wide-spread community participation than we have seen
recently with the former Maroochy Shire in
particular.
Several Club members continue to represent the Club and Coast cyclists at
State Government level.
Club representatives have won hard-earned respect from many at Council,
State and Bicycle Queensland. We expect this to stand us in good stead in
the years ahead.
Advocacy can be hard, time-consuming work but intensely rewarding. If you
feel up to the challenge, give the Club a call at one of the Contact numbers
listed in our Newsletter or Ride Calendar.
